     Monthly Musing

My proposal for book #4 for couples is with my agent and before the writing starts in earnest it seems I will getting lots of practice with the number of upcoming professional conferences I will be attending. I will update you on what is new from each.

March 9th I head to San Francisco for the Female Sexual Dysfunction Conference. From the conference handout; "The speakers will address how the global pharmaceutical industry is building a market through
public relations and the control of research; the growing backlash against drug company influence on medical education and research; curriculum transformation in sex education; the feminist health movement campaign against direct-to-consumer drug ads." Dr. Leonore Teifer, PhD is a driving force behind this conference and one of her speech platforms is "It's Time For A Public Campaign To Oppose The Medicalization of Sexuality." I
wanted the other side of the coin to be The Female Sexual Health Conference sponsored by numerous pharmaceutical companies and UCLA that was held this February 2nd-3rd in Santa Monica. I will compare the best from both for next month.

On April 4-7th I will be at The Western Region Annual Conference for the 4S's. The Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality. This is the hard scientific information about sexuality and happens to be my favorite. Topics to be covered are what is new in hormones, physiology, sexual pharmacology etc. When
I was at university people thought I was nuts to be in physical sciences when I had no intention of applying to medical school or doing grad work. The reason I like sciences so much you can find out how everything works and I couldn't imagine not getting that information if it were available. I just love to know how things work, and that includes the turning signal relay system in my car.

May 1-5th I will be in Miami for the 34th Annual AASECT American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists. I will be presenting a 2 hour version of THE LOU PAGET CONSUMER STANDARDS REPORT ON ADULT NOVELTIES. I first presented this last June in Paris at the World Congress
of Sexology. I will also be part of a peer discussion panel about the impact anecdotally we have seen on
people's sex lives post 9/11.

FYI; Many have asked for the THE LOU PAGET INTIMACY BOOSTER PLAN I created for the NBC show The Other Half. It is archived as February's Monthly Musing. (The Archives access is at the bottom of the page.)

Question of the month

      March, 2002

  Question:
  Hi Lou;
1) Have you heard of anybody who can't have clitoral orgasm when her legs are wide apart, only when her legs are together laying straight down and lying on her back? That is my problem. Got any ideas? Please help me understand

  Lou Answers
  Dear K,

Yes, I have heard of this and when you read the following three reasons you will see that indeed you do not have a 'problem'. Rather, like many women this is merely how you physically need to be positioned to have orgasms occur for you. FYI porn films be damned - their presented positions are sadly great for the camera's angle yet invariably completely hopeless for a woman's enjoyment.

Back to the reasons, starting physiologically - when a woman's legs are closer together there are more of the 'most sensitive bits" in a localized area. She or her partner need not move too far to find the most sensitive area.

Secondly, some women require a form of muscular tension in order to expand their sexual enjoyment and orgasm, and this can only be achieved when they are on their backs with tight thigh contraction. After all your thigh muscles are some of the largest in your body.

Thirdly, and possibly the most influential reason is if this position is the one in which you first experienced and learned to orgasm via masturbation, then as with most people, the way or position you first 'learned' is often one of the easiest and simplest routes to satisfaction

  Question:
  2) Finished reading your book, The Big O and I am still confused about ejaculation. What percentage of women ejaculate? What color is the fluid and where does it come from? Are there different types of ejaculation from G-spot vs. clitoral orgasm?
K

  Lou Answers

The percentage according to Dr. Santa Maria Cabello, one of the world's foremost researchers in female ejaculation, is that 70% of all women experience ejaculation. Those who have seen and/or experienced it have related to me the fluid 'was clear' to 'milky', and it tasted "buttery" to lightly sweet".

The fluid comes from the para (meaning on the side) uretheral glands. And it is not urine. The ejaculation each woman experiences is very unique. Some women experience it as a result of the arousal with kissing, some with oral sex, some from G-spot stimulation and some from heavy petting. Again it is uniquely personal to each woman.

I talked about female ejaculation in my December letter so for more research-oriented answers, you might like to check that out. (The Archives access is at the bottom of the QOM page.)
